The Environment Network’s Christmas Wrap-Up!

After a year of great progress within the Unite in Aviva Environment Network we wanted to share some of our key highlights with you:
-
So far, we have funded the planting of 4,343 trees, the restoration of 96m2 of habitat, avoided 282 tonnes of CO2e and the removal of 1 tonne of CO2e.
-
This year we have made donations on behalf of the network to the WWF Save UK Nature Fund, the Ocean Cleanup Project and the Birmingham and Black Country Wildlife Trust to name just a few!
-
We launched our A-Z of ESG terms in September and presented at the Finance and Legal Combine in November raising the profile of both the work of the network within Aviva and the urgent need for others in our sector to do the same within their branches.
-
We have continued our journey to transition the branch to Net Zero by starting to build a carbon emissions calculation calculator across our merchandise and travel (following the globally recognised Greenhouse Gas Protocol framework) to enable us to identify where we can further cut these emissions to reach the 90% reduction required by the Net Zero standard and then remove the residual 10% from the atmosphere.
This Christmas we funded a very special project right here in the UK, the ancient Harrison Woodlands in Lincolnshire, so ancient in fact that it was recorded in the Domesday book! Our £100 donation will help The Woodland Trust to raise the funds needed to buy this these woodlands and ensure their future protection and conservation and enable continued free access to the public.
